Generosity

Giving is an act of worship.  We can give without loving but we cannot love without giving.  We love our Lord who has saved us from our sin.  Therefore we give tithes and offerings to glorify Him and serve His kingdom.  No one is ever pressured to give although there are occasional stewardship exhortations consistent with Biblical teaching.  But God loves a cheerful giver and one who gives because He loves the Lord.

Money is not all that we give however.  We give our time to Him each Sunday morning.  Time is a precious commodity.  We all know that sometimes it is hard to get going on Sunday morning and get the kids ready for church.  Again though, because we love the Lord we want to be in the house of the Lord with the people of the Lord.  “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord!’”

We also give our songs of praise and our confession of sin.  And as we come to the table in covenant renewal we give ourselves to Him.  It was said of the Macedonian Christians, “First, they gave themselves.”  So do we!
